Welcome Father Basilio
We would like to welcome Father Allan Basilio, who will be staying with us for July, August, and September. Father Allan has been in the priesthood for 5 years and is presently studying in the University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain for a licenciate in Cannon Law.
Knights of Columbus/Holy Name Society Blood Drive
The Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society will sponsor a blood drive on Sunday, July 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Ferretti Hall. You must be at least 18 years of age. Please bring proper identification with you. For further information, call Bob Barricella at 943-2012. The blood supply is critically low, so please consider being a donor.
Great Adventure Trip
The Epiphany Youth Group will be going to Great Adventure on Tuesday, August 1. Anyone who will be in 9th-12th grades as of September is invited to attend. The cost for this trip is $32, which includes park tickets and transportation, which will be by bus. Permission slips are available in the Rectory or Youth Center. Deadline for registration is Sunday, July 23. If there are any questions, please call Jim McKeown at 943-4992.
Mass in Honor of Saint Anne
A Mass in honor of St. Anne will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Church, 442 Brinkerhoff Avenue, Palisades Park, on Wednesday, July 26 at 8:00 a.m. A holy relic of the saint will be venerated immediately following the feast day Mass. All are invited.
Beatification of Pope John XXIII
Reservations are now being accepted for an extraordinary Newark Archdiocesan Jubilee 2000 Holy Year Pilgrimage to Rome for the Beatification of Pope John XXIII, Pope Pius IX, and others, August 9 - September 6, departing Newark International Airport. Lodging at the Olympic Hotel (a six-minute walk to St. Peters), with excursions to Subiaco, Assisi, and Pompeii included. The cost is $2259 (+$85, applicable taxes). Holy Father Invites Young Adults to Rome in August
Youth and young adults are invited to attend this years World Youth Day in Rome with the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, from August 13-21. The Office of CYO Youth and Young Adult Ministries for the Archdiocese of Newark is offering two trip packages: the regular pilgrimage for youth and young adults, and a special pilgrimage package exclusively for young adults (ages 21-39). 2nd Annual Parish Picnic
Sunday, September 10 from 1:00 on, the Epiphany Holy Name Society would like to invite everyone to bring their families and friends for same food, fun, games, prizes, and much, much more. Tickets are $5 and include a hot dog, hamburger, and a soda. Proceeds are to benefit the Epiphany Youth Group.
See You In September Dance
The Confraternity of Christian Women will sponsor a See You in September Dance on Saturday, September 23 for the benefit of the Religious Education Program of Epiphany Church. Tickets will be available shortly and more information will follow in August.
Pilgrimage to the Holy Land
A pilgrimage to the Holy Land has been planned for March 17-25, 2001. Included are sightseeing to all the major shrines, Daily Mass at sacred churches, full breakfast and dinner daily, all transfers, and much, much more. Please call Father Joe at the rectory, 943-7320, for more information.
New Auxiliary Bishop Named
Pope John Paul II has named a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark to be an Auxiliary Bishop. The Holy Father named Monsignor Arthur J. Serratelli, rector of St. Andrew College Seminary, Seton Hall University, to be an Auxiliary Bishop. Monsignor Serratelli was ordained a priest on December 20, 1968 in Rome for service to the Archdiocese of Newark. He was born on April 18, 1944 and attended local grammar schools, Seton Hall Prep, and Seton Hall University, where he studied philosophy. He studied for the priesthood at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington, NJ. In making the announcement, Archbishop McCarrick stated: Once more the Holy Father has honored the Church of Newark by selecting one of its outstanding priests for the Office of Bishop. It is with great gratitude to God that we welcome Monsignor Arthur Serratelli as Auxiliary Bishop of Newark. Congratulations from Epiphany Parish!
Giving Tree
We again call your attention to the beautiful Giving Tree which has been donated by the Spadaccini Family. It is located in the ground level elevator entrance to the Church. Each leaf, acorn and base brick can be memorialized. The offerings begin at $250. Further information is available at the rectory.
Designated Pilgrimage Churches for the Holy Year 2000
Archbishop McCarrick has designated nine Pilgrimage Churches in the Archdiocese for the Jubilee 2000. They are:
Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark
Bergen County: St. John, Bergenfield and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Ridgewood
Hudson County: Saints Peter and Paul, Hoboken and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Bayonne
Essex County: St. Peters, Belleville and Immaculate Conception, Montclair
Union County: St. John the Evangelist, Linden and Assumption, Elizabeth
To gain a Plenary Indulgence of the Jubilee, one must visit one of the churches and fulfill the norms listed between Christmas Eve 1999 and Epiphany 2001.
1. Celebrate Sacramental Confession.
2. Attend Mass and receive the Eucharist or some other liturgical service.
3. Spend time in quite meditation.
4. Recite the Our Father, Hail Mary, Profession of Faith during the visit to the church.
5. Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father.
6. Perform acts of charity and penance.
